The Municipal Fire Protection Services is provided by the volunteer fire fighters of Coleman, Blairmore, Bellevue and Hillcrest. The provision of fire services is carried out with regards to accepted industry standards and practices.
The chiefs of various fire departments, along with their members, have done a tremendous job of responding to these challenges. They have been working together to coordinate their efforts and to share their expertise and resources.
Working Together You and Your Volunteer Fire Departments
Members of the fire department provide fire suppression, extrication, rescue, hazardous materials response and respond to other emergency situations when called to duty in the Crowsnest Pass and surrounding areas.
Each volunteer fire brigade in the Crowsnest Pass has it’s own history and experience to offer. In 1905 Coleman first organized a 16-man volunteer fire brigade to purchase some equipment and erect a fire hall. A fire hall servicing the town of Blairmore was first constructed in 1910. Citizens organized the Bellevue Volunteer Fire Department in 1951 and were able to buy a new Dodge truck and modify it as an emergency vehicle. In 1977 a new fire hall was completed in Bellevue and is still used today.
Our Fire Protection Services have been founded by volunteers who saw the need for an organized fire protection plan. They consist of many dedicated, caring individuals who work together as a team to provide emergency assistance to those in need. They give their time unselfishly in order to provide fire protection to the Crowsnest Pass. Hands on training and classroom lectures are routine activities for the members of the department.
